This two day hands-on course will instruct novice and experienced physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in evidence-based manual therapy treatment strategies/techniques that yield immediate results targeting the lumbar spine, sacroiliac joints, hip joints, and cervicothoracic spine for individuals of all ages. A concise review of the relevant anatomy, biomechanics, arthrokinematics, and significant assessment findings will be covered for each area. Common misconceptions regarding the use of manual therapy in the elderly population will be dispelled and indications/contraindications for spinal/sacroiliac/hip joint mobilization techniques will be highlighted. Since the focus of this manual therapy course is the hands-on laboratory component, participants will have the opportunity to develop the psychomotor skills needed to correctly perform techniques and modify them for use in the elderly patient population to include those patients with limited mobility. This course will specifically cover ideal techniques to use to make positive, immediate changes in patients’ conditions.
