In 2017, 1,688,780 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed. 78% of all cancer diagnoses are in persons aged 55 or older. The management of symptoms related to cancer and its treatment is an important part of cancer care, affecting the completion of treatment and quality of life, as well as physical and psychological functioning. Physical Therapy can be applied throughout the entire phase from the time of diagnosis to the terminal stage, and it is an approach that can involve psychosocial aspects as well as physical aspects. This seminar will identify the role of Physical Therapy in managing the effects of cancer in older adults. In addition, this seminar will prepare clinicians to develop an effective plan of care and interventions for clients living and surviving with cancer.
