The 3 hour program will begin by a reviewing the anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system. Next vestibular pathology will be discussed, with emphasis on peripheral vestibular dysfunction, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, concussion, and central causes of vertigo (i.e. stroke/TBI). The program will then discuss the vestibular evaluation, which will including the patient’s medical history, history of current condition, and the clinical examination. After discussing the vestibular evaluation and demonstrating some of the examination techniques, course participants will have an opportunity to practice selected techniques and screening procedures. Next, treatment interventions will be discussed for selected diagnoses (i.e. peripheral vestibular disorders, BPPV, central vestibular disorders, concussion). Course participants will then have a chance to practice selected treatment interventions. Finally, there will be a discussion regarding scope of practice and knowing when to refer a patient back to their physician or to a specialist.
