This course will review the different lower extremity orthotic designs and technologies and the orthotic fitting strategies that can be used to effectively provide therapeutic benefits for contracture management orthotic therapy. Orthotic fitting strategies include correct positioning therapy with “bend to fit” technology, progressive extension therapy using static bracing, stress-relax orthotic therapy using pneumatic bracing, static-dynamic bracing, and dynamic spring loaded technology, and anti-spasticity bracing intervention using pneumatic bracing, static-dynamic bracing, and dynamic spring loaded technology. Demonstrations will be provided for fitting an orthotic device using each of the fitting strategies
