This course is designed to give the physical therapist a greater understanding of headaches and orofacial pain and provide a practical framework for management of these conditions. Lecture will be provided to familiarize the participant with the most common headache subtypes and their presentation and diagnostic criteria as set forth by the International Headache Society. Physical therapy treatment options to address common headaches will also be discussed. Additional lecture will address common temporomandibular disorders, their presentations, and physical therapy management based on the best available evidence. Patient education will be discussed to address behavioral and lifestyle modifications that have evidence of being contributing factors to orofacial pain. Ample lab time will be provided to cover manual therapy interventions and exercise to address the various diagnoses discussed in the lecture portion of the course so that the learner will feel comfortable immediately integrating these techniques into their clinical practice. Finally, case examples will be provided so the learner may synthesize and apply all information covered in the course.
