Target Audience: PTs, ATs, DC’s, PA’s, NP’s, if it is within your scope of practice per your state board or supervising agency. Intricate Art Dry Needling 1 is an introductory course on Dry Needling in clinical practice and is open to PTs, ATs, DC’s, PA’s, NP’s or other medical professionals whose state board or supervising agency includes DN within the scope of practice. This course is unique in the fact that each class is dually taught by a male and female instructor. This improves student comfort, learning and competency following the course. The course begins with an overview of DN history, safety and its current evidence-based applications. Neuromusculoskeletal impairments, including common signs and symptoms and potential DN treatment routes are discussed in depth throughout the course. The known physiologic responses to needling different structures, such as periosteum, ligaments, tendons, muscle tissue, scar tissue, etc. are discussed. An in-depth look at the methodology and effectiveness of DN for high level athletes is included. Safety precautions and the proper handling of potential blood borne pathogens associated with DN is covered. The primary method of learning for this course centers on the hands-on, clinical application of DN with various partners throughout the course. Students will review clinical anatomy and practice DN of each tissue and system covered throughout the course. Each attendee will be expected to sign a waiver and practice DN on a lab partner (exceptions can be made). The art of “needle palpation” will be introduced, which includes identifying different subdermal tissues with the tip of the needle to improve the efficacy of treatment and patient outcomes. Following this course every student receives access to both instructors via cell phone or email and are encouraged to contact us at any time with clinical questions or concerns.
