This one day, clinically focused course emphasizes key considerations applicable to the physical and occupational therapists managing patients in the intensive care unit setting. The course will present current evidence on adverse effects of bedrest, ICU delirium, ICU acquired weakness, Post ICU Syndrome (PICS), and the benefits and applicability of early mobilization in this setting. The course will include both lecture and practical, hands-on sections in management of ICU lines, leads, and equipment. The practical portion will take place in a high-tech simulation and training center using high fidelity mannequins to simulate a critical care unit with the many lines, leads, tubes, and equipment encountered in the ICU. Attendees will return to their practice with the tools to identify appropriate patients for early mobilization and increase confidence in management of these patients in the ICU setting.
