Understanding the factors that contribute to the effectiveness of manual therapy allows each component to be enhanced, improving outcomes and acceptability of manual therapy as a management strategy. In this Masterclass we discuss the mechanical and physiological effects of manual therapy, and how the social environment (including patient expectations) can affect how manual therapy is provided.
