Is it a rule? Is it a law? Is it a policy? Or Is it just the right thing to do? Physical therapist in today’s complex healthcare environment are faced with frequent challenges in discerning how to navigate the tangled web of Federal Regulations, State Laws, Commercial Insurance Payer Policies and Facility Policies all while trying to do what is right for the patient. In this course we will break down the difference between State law and Federal laws. We will discuss fraud, waste and abuse and the impact on our healthcare system. We will distinguish the difference in supervisory rules for different settings and different payers. We will delineate how SC State Law differs from payer regulations. We will learn a process for evaluating ethical and legal dilemmas, and we will end the session by applying the information to real life case studies.
