Credit Description:

This course will consist of one hour of pre-recorded asynchronous content followed by a two-hour synchronous session, both of which need to be completed, in their entirety, to receive CEUs. The asynchronous content will allow participants to identify the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect in the clinical environment with patients (and colleagues or students) who identify within the sexual and gender diverse (SGD) spectrum. Participants will also learn respectful terminology to use about people who identify within the SGD spectrum. During the two-hour synchronous portion, participants will discuss (in a large group and small breakout groups) the structural and societally endorsed inequities that contribute to health and healthcare disparities for SGD populations. Participants will also have the opportunity to integrate knowledge of LGBTQ+ healthcare needs and disparities and APTA Core Values into best physical therapy practice as well as identify community and professional resources to assist with health education and support for these communities.
