John F. Barnes' Cervical-Thoracic Myofascial Release Seminar (Prerequisite: Myofascial Release I) The Cervical-Thoracic Myofascial Release Seminar is designed as a "hands-on" experience, providing a comprehensive knowledge of the function, structure, and treatment of the cervical-thoracic region of the body. Primary focus is on the fascial system and how the cervical-thoracic complex affects and is affected by the fascial system of the whole body. Emphasis is placed on developing palpation and proprioceptive skills. For teaching purposes the seminar is divided into regions including: the thoraco-lumbar junction, rib cage, thoracic spine, sternum, shoulder girdle, upper extremities, cervical spine, and the craniomandibular mechanism. Techniques being taught will integrate a whole treatment regime for this area including: myofascial release utilizing both soft tissue and osseous structures as handles, joint mobilization, muscle energy, and home exercise programs. Upon completion of the seminar participating professionals will have an understanding of how to evaluate and treat pain and dysfunction of the cervical-thoracic complex. They will be able to utilize appropriate techniques to treat soft tissue and osseous restrictions for resolution of problems in these areas and be able to return to their clinical setting and immediately incorporate these skills into their treatment programs.
