This dynamic course will provide an introduction for therapists who are beginning to treat infants. We will review typical acquisition of milestones and identify how various medical diagnoses can alter its trajectory. We will review positioning and equipment to support development, as well as those that are commercially available and why they sometimes hinder development. The role of state regulation will be discussed, as well as its affect on assessment, treatment, and all aspects of development. We will review safe sleep practices, as well as red flags for aspiration and speech and language delay. An overview of assessment tools and handling will be provided. An overview of the continuum of care in hospital-basewd services for the medically complex infant will be provided. Participants will come away with a firm foundation for infant treatment, as well as knowledge of programs that support this specilaized population at Phoenix Children's. Items needed: yoga mat and flexiblle doll.
