Recent revisions to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Learn the Signs. Act Early. developmental surveillance tool has stirred controversy and refocused attention upon the importance of early detection of and intervention for infants with motor delays. This course will review current evidence on the importance of developmental surveillance and screening, international guidelines for early detection and identification of cerebral palsy and other motor disorders, and best-practice early intervention strategies for infants with cerebral palsy and/or motor delays. Implications for physical therapy practice in both out-patient and early intervention settings will be discussed.
