Credit Description:

Burnout is a work-related stress syndrome resulting from chronic exposure to job stress. Long term care staff and caregivers are at risk for prolonged stress and burnout. This may have significant negative personal and professional consequences for individuals experiencing these concerns. COVID-19 is amplifying all of the factors that lead to burnout and stress. The pandemic demands an increased need for care providers to fulfill the medical, mental and social health needs of the families and communities impacted. As a result, recognition of this problem and development of adequate coping personal and organizational strategies is essential in dealing with this challenge in LTC settings. This seminar will describe the physiological effects of stress and identify the causes, symptoms, and consequences of stress and burnout. It will also introduce strategies for assessing levels of stress and implementing strategies to prevent/minimize the development of burnout and increase work satisfaction in your LTC setting.
