Credit Description:

This course is a two day level 2 dry needling course designed to teach advanced-level dry needling interventions specific to each region of the body including the use of adjunct treatments such as electrical stimulation (electroneedling). It will integrate recent evidence-based concepts presented in the literature to patient cases to optimize treatment outcomes, and is not an acupuncture course. Safety and proper handling of needles and blood borne pathogens associated with the dry needling will be used and emphasized throughout the entirety of the course. Each participant will be expected to sign a waiver and practice dry needling on a lab partner that is also taking the course. This course is offered to licensed healthcare professionals who have previously successfully completed a level 1 dry needling course(s) that covered both upper and lower extremity dry needling practice and application. This course is designed to cover dry needling as a manual therapy for the lumbopelvic region, abdominal region, pectoralis, anterior neck, TMJ, thoracic spine, quadratus lumborum, hip flexor, and the posterior chain. It will also incorporate the use of electroneedling and implications for the use of this adjunct treatment. This course will review relevant anatomy related to the use of dry needling as a manual therapy. This course will cover the use of Dry Needling techniques in relation to trigger points/myofascial pain syndromes and its use in treating musculoskeletal injuries and/or disorders. Participants will be required to complete a quiz following the introductory information regarding safety, adverse effects and safe handling which will be graded on a pass/fail grading system. Participants in this course will also be required to complete a skills check at the end of the course demonstrating competency and safe use of the material learned throughout the course, also graded on a pass/fail grading system. Participants in this course will gain an advanced knowledge about the implication and utilization of dry needling in a physical therapy setting. Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to demonstrate advanced competency in the practice of dry needling and its use throughout the body in treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders. Participants will also demonstrate safe handling skills and understand that they will utilize throughout their time spent practicing dry needling in a clinical setting.
