Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of relatively rare disorders that inhibit the body from collagen production and connective tissue function. There are thirteen types of EDS that affect systemic function in different ways. EDS is a disorder that takes a multidisciplinary approach to manage effectively. Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants need to be well educated on the recognition of EDS and effective intervention strategies to optimize the quality of life for their patients. This course will outline Ehlers Danlos Syndrome as a condition, differential diagnoses, how the disease process impacts patients across the life span, medical intervention, and physical therapy intervention strategies.
