Over forty-one thousand people in the United States undergo organ transplantation annually. Due to the loss of functional capacity, organ transplantation of any organ is typically an arduous process facilitated by many healthcare professionals. Rehabilitation professionals have a role to help improve the physical capacity of patients who undergo an organ transplant both before and after surgery. This course will describe organ transplantation in detail including different organ types, complications, epidemiology, assessment items for rehabilitation professionals, and rehabilitation protocols supported by evidence. This course will help rehabilitation professionals including physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and occupational therapists more effectively work with patients who have undergone organ transplantation.
