Course Title: Pelvic Health Level 1: Bladder Control and Pelvic Floor Examination Live course dates: Feb 26 & 27,2022 in Westminster , CO. Course Instructor: Ruth Jenkins PT, COMT, CLT, Pelvic Health and Wellness, Instructor FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Centers.This Level 1 Pelvic Health course provides PTs OTs PTAs and ATCs with the exceptional opportunity to learn internal and external vaginal and rectal examination, palpation, and treatment techniques of the pelvis and pelvic floor by examining live female and male simulated patients/models. Independent study, online course modules, and videos will prepare the participant for an intensive live interactive instructional experience. Instruction in pelvic floor muscle function, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, and pelvic floor disorders will provide the clinician with skills for immediate clinical application and build the base for future courses. Clinicians will develop practical knowledge and skill in the treatment of bladder control problems, female pelvic organ prolapse, and male prostate-related bladder control problems. Intervention skills will include scientifically dosed therapeutic exercise for pelvic floor muscle training, behavioral interventions, sEMG perineal biofeedback, pressure biofeedback, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation. Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course: Examination/ Evaluation 1. All participants will describe and identify normal and abnormal anatomy and function of the pelvic floor. 2. All participants will describe the physiology of micturition, types of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and bladder control problems including urinary incontinence (UI), and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). 3. PTs and OTs will perform examination and evaluation of the pelvic floor vaginally in females and rectally in males and females.Diagnosis/Prognosis 4. PTs and OTs will differentiate between musculoskeletal and medical diagnoses based on the subjective and objective evaluation of a patient with LUTS and/or POP. 5. All participants will develop rehabilitation goals for musculoskeletal impairments in patients with LUTS and or POP based on the patient interview and the physical, occupational therapists examination of the patient. 6. PTs and OTs will perform differential diagnosis of musculoskeletal impairments associated with LUTS and or POP. 7. PTs and OTs will differentiate signs and symptoms of different types of LUTS including stress, urge, and mixed UI, incomplete emptying, urgency and frequency, and nocturia.
