For the vast majority of individuals, the right hemisphere of the brain is dominant in processing spatial information, processing holistic information, and processing of emotional functions; largely non-language data and information less "bound" by literal interpretation. This presentation will introduce the structure and function of the right hemisphere, with an emphasis on the contribution of the right hemisphere to perception, creativity, problem-solving and conceptual understanding. Implications of dysfunction/injury to the right hemisphere structures and function secondary to brain injury and function secondary to brain injury and stroke will be presented, in addition to functional recommendations in the rehabilitation of such neurological compromise.
