In 1989, there were 25 million persons over age 65 in the United States, and it is expected that this figure will increase to more than 65 million by 2030 (20% of the population). The fastest growing segment of the population is the group older than age 85 years. As a result, rehabilitation professionals must be prepared to provide effective rehabilitation for this increasing demographic. Therapeutic exercise can reduce morbidity and increase functional ability in the geriatric patient population. This seminar will prepare clinicians to implement effective exercise prescriptions and interventions for the older adult.
