Yoga is a holistic and multifaceted practice that originated in ancient India and has evolved over thousands of years. It encompasses physical postures, breath control, meditation, ethical principles, and philosophical teachings. Yoga is often understood as a means of achieving harmony and balance between the body, mind, and spirit. While physical postures are a prominent aspect of yoga, the practice goes beyond exercise. It involves cultivating self-awareness, mindfulness, and a connection to one's inner self. Yoga promotes the idea of finding unity within oneself and with the larger universe. This course will delve into the history of yoga, styles, introduction to the world of physical therapy, the benefits of combining yoga and physical therapy, patient populations who benefit from a combined approach, and billing logistics and guidelines for integration of yoga and physical therapy. Physical therapists and physical therapist assistants will be well versed in integrating yoga and physical therapy after finishing this course.
