Broaden the lens of physical therapy in this 8-hour course that will introduce participants to a practical approach to yoga in patient care and learn how to observe and treat the whole patient with a yogic view. Yoga has been shown to be an effective treatment for persistent pain and can enhance treatment in any setting from acute care to outpatient ortho. Studies show that breathing exercises alone can improve low back pain (1) and yoga practice can improve pain tolerance and decrease pain related brain activity (2). Expand your tool box for common conditions like hypermobility, low back/hip pain, and neck/shoulder pain as we explore a wide variety of treatments and apply them to case studies. This will be an experiential course allowing participants not only to learn but to also experience a variety of yoga techniques, therefore please dress comfortably. No prior yoga experience is required and yoga mats will be provided. 1 Shi J, Liu Z, Zhou X, Jin F, Chen X, Wang X, Lv L.
