Walking is not only an activity of daily living, but it is utilized by millions of people to achieve their fitness goals. Just because most people can walk does not mean that it is simple. To successfully walk, a person must move their body along a desired path, conserve energy, absorb force, and maintain stability. Understanding the complexity of various systems in our bodies that contribute to successful walking will help medical and fitness professionals understand walking gait and how to improve it. Level 1 Certified Walking Gait Analyst provides an understanding of normal walking biomechanics and its contributors, a method to identify movement impairments in strength and mobility with the Gait Capacity Screen, and lastly how to analyze walking gait with typical gait retraining strategies. Course participants will learn how to set themselves apart by developing complete plans for normal and impaired walkers by learning to address common impairments, gait modifications/re-training via proper cueing and walking skill development. RunDNA prides itself on treating the whole person and this holistic approach will take center stage as this material is presented. This video-based learning course will provide handouts and worksheets that learners will utilize to help convey and retain the concepts. Lab components will reinforce concepts in various ways for a multitude of learners to understand key concepts from this course. At the conclusion, participants will be confident in articulating normal walking mechanics and how to identify contributing factors with movement analysis.
