The incidence of clients with wounds is increasing because of an aging population, increased numbers of diabetic patients, and the growing epidemic of obesity. In LTC settings, this will mandate that all clinicians providing wound care will need to sharpen their skill sets through education and training. This session will examine the foundations of wound care education for staff in LTC Settings. Learners will examine key elements (role of multidisciplinary team, documentation and reimbursement, prevention, wound assessment and wound treatment) of effective education to support delivered wound care services. This session will also introduce strategies for making wound care learning engaging and fun in the LTC setting. The strategies addressed in this session will help learners go back to their communities and focus on continued quality improvement plans for wound care staff education. With this renewed focus and commitment to service and care delivery in this area, staff confidence and satisfaction can be enhanced.
