This course will provide physical and occupational therapists with the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate pediatric patients for durable medical equipment such as manual wheelchairs, standers and gait trainers. The course will provide insight into the unique needs of the pediatric population such as growth, development, mobility limitations, and medical conditions to allow the clinician to identify the most appropriate durable medical equipment. Clinicians will learn how to complete the physical exam for the seating assessment and considerations for selecting the components of the seating system. Participants will learn the essentials of the letter of medical necessity for equipment for submission to payors and be able to create defensible documentation for equipment.. Participants will experience first hand the collaboration between Assistive Technology Professionals and therapists to select equipment for pediatric patients.
