Boredom, lack of socialization and meaningful activities, improper engagement with clients with dementia will lead to unwanted behavior and reactions. Addressing these three areas in a person-centered manner will reduce those behaviors and reactions. Furthermore, socialization and engagement will be your key to success with functional outcomes while working with those with memory impairment. Activities are the responsibility of everyone. Determining the best activities for functional outcome is the therapist role. Enhancing socialization and engagement while reducing boredom are the responsibility of the entire team. This course will enumerate ways of incorporating socialization and engagement into traditional therapy procedures to gain maximum functional outcomes by reducing unwanted reactions or behaviors.
