Credit Description:

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the use of current research and the best available data to guide therapist’s practice decisions for the best patient outcomes. While it has been the gold standard for quite some time, according to several resources there still exists a greater than 15-year gap between the published best evidence and it’s use in clinical settings. Education related to the importance of the EBP process and access to technology to acquire current evidence has shortened the lag but still best practice is still not happening in many facilities throughout our healthcare system in the US. Therapists are under pressure to justify the services they provide, and such establishing habits that promote the use of evidence in clinical settings is paramount. The lack of EBP or not being able to use research evidence in practice may affect reimbursement and reduce the scope of practice in a variety of settings. This could result in decreased staffing levels and/ or less services being provided. This presentation is designed to reinforce the importance of EBP as well as to provide practical examples based upon the evidence of ways for therapists to build EBP into their workday.
