Credit Description:

As physical therapists, we have defined ourselves as movement system experts, thus we must continue to demonstrate how the movement system diagnosis influences the entirety of the episode of care. In this 4-hour course, we will discuss the difference between the health condition and movement system diagnosis (MSDx), review commonly accepted movement system diagnoses and their treatment principles found in the literature, review key concepts of task analysis and the proposed systematic movement examination via APTA's movement screen. Lastly, we will practice what we learned through patient case examples by assigning a movement system diagnosis, suggesting treatment techniques to address movement system impairments and functional limitations, and providing discharge planning recommendations. Furthermore, we will discuss how assigning a different movement system diagnosis to the same patient may have resulted in less optimal outcomes. At the end of the course, learners will be able to discuss the idea of a systematic movement examination; how the movement system diagnosis differs from a health condition; and how the movement system diagnosis influences an episode of care.
