Drawing from both her personal experience and years of clinical practice, Carla Ianni (course instructor) has seen firsthand the glaring need for Spanish-speaking clinicians in rehabilitation settings. As a step forward to address this consistent shortfall, Spanish Basics for the Rehabilitation Professional was born. This course is for English-speaking Rehab Professionals with little to no Spanish proficiency seeking to kickstart or strengthen their beginner level Spanish competency. By doing so, Rehab Professionals will improve their communication with patients from the Spanish-speaking population to enhance care delivery and patient satisfaction. In this 5-hour course, providers will learn how to utilize fundamental Spanish words and phrases commonly used in providing rehabilitation services. Upon completion of this beginner course, participants will have increased ability for direct patient-provider communication, improved patient rapport development opportunities, and the ability to provide more effective care to the Spanish-speaking population. Participants will also be provided with supplemental resources and research-backed recommendations to support their Spanish competency growth beyond the course. This course is also appropriate and encouraged for the Student Rehab Professional.
