Taking the Next Step: How to Utilize Orthotics in Your Next Physical Therapy Treatment Plan is a continuing education course designed for physical therapists who seek to enhance their clinical decision-making related to orthotic intervention. This course provides instruction in performing a comprehensive foot and ankle evaluation, identifying common diagnoses and clinical indicators appropriate for custom and over-the-counter orthotics, and understanding the principles and techniques of casting for custom orthotic fabrication. Participants will also examine the essential components of a stable and supportive shoe and review therapeutic exercises that improve foot and ankle stability to complement orthotic use. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning, proper technique, and integration of orthotics into evidence-based physical therapy treatment plans.
