Pelvic Floor Considerations for the General Orthopedic Physical Therapist is a continuing education course designed to increase awareness and screening competence related to pelvic floor dysfunction in orthopedic practice. The course includes a brief review of pelvic floor anatomy and physiology, common pelvic floor conditions, and key pregnancy and postpartum considerations affecting rehabilitation and return to activity. Participants will explore pelvic floor considerations in young female athletes, including prevalence, screening strategies, and clinical management within the orthopedic setting. Common musculoskeletal presentations potentially related to pelvic floor dysfunction—such as persistent hip pain, lower abdominal pain, and sciatic-type symptoms—are also discussed. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning, appropriate screening, and integration into orthopedic evaluation and treatment planning, with guidance on referral when indicated.
