This course will be delivered within the framework of the World Physiotherapy South America Region Conference, to be held on 17–18 April 2026, with pre-conference courses scheduled for 16 April 2026. It is conceived as a high-level continuing professional development activity aimed at physiotherapists seeking to update and deepen their competencies in the assessment and prescription of exercise for adults and older adults with musculoskeletal disorders. The course, entitled “Physiotherapeutic Assessment and Prescription of Strength, Power and Motor Control in Older Adults with Musculoskeletal Pathology”, addresses a critical and growing need in contemporary physiotherapy practice. Population ageing in South America and globally has led to an increased prevalence of musculoskeletal conditions associated with functional decline, sarcopenia, impaired neuromuscular control, and reduced physical performance. Physiotherapists play a central role in preventing disability, promoting functional independence, and optimizing quality of life in this population through safe and evidence-based exercise interventions. The scientific foundation of the course integrates current knowledge from biomechanics, neuromuscular physiology, motor control, and clinical exercise science. Particular emphasis is placed on the objective assessment of muscle strength, power, and motor control, as well as on the interpretation of these variables to support clinical reasoning and individualized intervention planning. These neuromuscular components are presented as key determinants of functional capacity, mobility, fall risk, and participation in activities of daily living. From a professional development perspective, the course is designed to bridge the gap between research evidence and clinical practice. Participants will be introduced to contemporary assessment approaches and practical frameworks that can be directly applied in a wide range of clinical settings, including outpatient rehabilitation, community-based programmes, and hospital care. The content is aligned with international recommendations and current best practices in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. The course will be delivered by an experienced academic and clinician with an extensive background in physiotherapy education, clinical biomechanics, and applied research. The pedagogical approach combines theoretical foundations with applied clinical reasoning, encouraging critical thinking and reflective practice. Although structured as an intensive short course, it is designed to provide participants with practical tools that can be immediately translated into their professional context. Embedded within the World Physiotherapy South America Region Conference, this pre-conference course contributes to the broader objectives of the event by promoting professional excellence, regional capacity building, and the dissemination of high-quality, evidence-informed physiotherapy practice. It also fosters academic exchange, networking, and the strengthening of professional standards across the South America region. In summary, this course represents a relevant, scientifically grounded, and practice-oriented continuing professional development activity that aligns with the mission of World Physiotherapy to advance physiotherapy practice, education, and research worldwide.
