Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), is crucial. As rehabilitation professionals, we spend more direct, one-on-one time with our residents than almost any other discipline. This puts us on the front lines, uniquely positioned to recognize and respond to mental health challenges. This session is about equipping you with the framework to act as a crucial first responder. Participants will gain a practical, evidence-informed framework for recognizing and responding to common mental health concerns encountered in rehabilitation settings, including anxiety, depression, trauma-related conditions, substance use disorders, and acute crises such as suicidal ideation or panic attacks. The program emphasizes the critical intersection between mental health and rehabilitation outcomes, highlighting how psychological distress can significantly influence motivation, adherence to treatment, functional recovery, and overall quality of life. Through structured instruction, real-world scenarios, and discipline-relevant case examples, attendees will learn how to identify early warning signs of mental health challenges, assess risk in a supportive and nonjudgmental manner, and initiate appropriate first-line responses within their professional scope of practice. In addition to supporting clients, this webinar acknowledges the emotional demands placed on rehabilitation professionals themselves. Participants will examine the impact of secondary trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue, and will be introduced to self-care strategies and organizational practices that support clinician resilience and psychological well-being. By strengthening both client-focused and self-support skills, the program reinforces a culture of mental health awareness and proactive intervention within rehabilitation services.
