As rehabilitation professionals, we often focus on restoration and recovery. But for our older adult clients with life-limiting conditions, our focus must gracefully shift to palliative rehabilitation. This webinar on Quality of Care at the End of Life is designed to support rehabilitation professionals who provide care to individuals with serious, progressive, or life-limiting conditions. The program examines the evolving role of rehabilitation within palliative and end-of-life care, emphasizing how timely, person-centered interventions can enhance comfort, dignity, functional ability, and quality of life even as goals of care shift. Participants will explore how rehabilitation principles align with palliative philosophies to support meaningful participation, symptom management, and psychosocial well-being. The webinar addresses key components of high-quality end-of-life care, including effective communication, shared decision-making, and interprofessional collaboration. Attendees will learn strategies for discussing goals of care, respecting patient and family preferences, and adapting rehabilitation plans in response to changing medical status and prognosis. Clinical examples illustrate how rehabilitation professionals can help manage pain, fatigue, dyspnea, and mobility limitations while supporting autonomy and safety. Special attention is given to ethical considerations, cultural sensitivity, and family dynamics that influence care at the end of life. Participants will also examine the emotional and professional challenges associated with caring for individuals at the end of life, including grief, moral distress, and boundary setting. Practical tools are provided to support clinician resilience and reflective practice.
